Joining the Library
Library Membership is free, and creating an account is easy. You can join online by clicking the button below, or you can visit your local library and join at the desk.
Make sure to bring some Photo ID and Proof of Address when you visit the library to join or to collect your library card if you are joining online.
Children and young people under the age of 18 must have the permission of a parent/guardian to join the library and a parent/guardian must accept the terms and conditions of membership on their behalf.
When a child or young person is eligible to change borrower category from a Child membership to a Young Adult (12-14), or a Young Adult (12-14) to a Young Adult (15-17) membership, parents/guardians must accept the terms and conditions of membership on their behalf.

Library Membership Terms & Conditions:
Terms and Conditions are subject to change without notice.
- To borrow items, you must present your library membership card.
- You may borrow up to 12 items and you may keep them for up to 3 weeks.
Membership Types are as follows:- Adult – access to all library collections and to the Internet.
- Child (under 12) – access to the children's library collections, to DVDs up to a PG rating, and to Internet Services when accompanied by parent/guardian.
- Young Adult (12-14) – access to the childrens library collections & young adult library collections, to DVDs up to a 12 rating, and to Internet Services with parental permission.
- Young Adult (15-17) – access to the adult library collecctions, young adult library collections, to DVDs up to 15 rating, and to internet services with parental permission.
- To borrow items, you must present your library membership card.
- You may borrow up to 12 items and you may keep them for up to 3 weeks.
- Items may be borrowed from and returned to any public library in the country.
- Items on loan may be renewed up to three times, subject to availability.
- No fines or charges apply for late returns.
- Parents / Guardians are responsible for their children in the library, their children's selections and use of library materials and services, including access to the internet.
- Members should advise library staff, as soon as possible, of any changes in membership details or loss of library card.
- Members are required to bring their library card with them when visiting the library as it is needed in order to borrow items or use the computer facilities. If you do not have the card with you, you will be required to show some photographic ID before you can borrow an item or use the computer facilities.
- Members must at all times observe the Library Code of Conduct while using our library facilities.
- Members must comply with the conditions of the Copyright and Related Rights Act 2000.
- Public Libraries operate within the statutory framework in relation to all services including the Code of Behaviour for the protection and safeguarding of children in public libraries 2014. Library users must comply with all associated requirements.
Libraries Ireland Terms & Conditions
As part of the online form you will be asked to set up a P.I.N. This is a four digit number that you will be able to use with your library card number to manage your library account online and to access all of the free online resources that are included with your library membership
When you complete the online form you will receive a temporary library number. With the PIN and the temporary library number you will be able to access the free online services at www.librariesireland.ie/elibrary straightaway.
To collect your library card, and fully activate your account just visit your local library branch. When you visit to collect your card, make sure to bring some Photo I.D. and proof of your address.
Joining in a Library Branch:
To join in a library, please visit your local branch and complete a membership form. Make sure to bring some Photo I.D. and some proof of your current address.
When you are completing your membership form in a library branch, you will be asked to set up a PIN. This is a four digit number that you will be able to use with your library card number to manage your your library account online and access all of the free online resources that are included with your library membership.
Parent / Guardian Responsibility
Parents / Guardians are responsible for their children in the library, their children's selections and use of library materials and services, including access to the internet.
